The West Lunga Conservation Project (WLCP) works in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), local government, communities and the private sector to rehabilitate, restore and protect the West Lunga ecosystem. This comprises the West Lunga National Park at its core, surrounded by Game Management Areas (GMAs), National Forests and traditional, customary land that covers approximately 11,754 square kilometres. Through galvanising these relationships, the long term goal is to make this vital landscape ecologically, socially and financially sustainable.

Our Work

WLCP works with DNPW to create a long term plan for the management and restoration of this little known National Park in North-Western, Zambia.

Communities

WLCP works directly with local communities and traditional leaderships to create value chains focussed on the protection of local ecosystems through Community Business Units.

Wildlife

Remnant populations of a number of wildlife species remain within the West Lunga ecosystem. Protecting the core breeding stocks are vital to wildlife recoveries and its long term sustainability.

Ecosystems

The West Lunga ecosystem is a mosaic of unique forests, floodplains and rivers. They provide vital services to the hydrological, geophysical and micro climate functions of the entire region.
